How did we go from freaking out over Ebola to "debating" vaccines?

I can't get my brain around how we went from "OMIGOD EBOLA WE CAN'T LET ONE SINGLE PATIENT BE TREATED IN THE U.S. OR WE'LL ALL DIE!" to "Meh, vaccines, not really necessary."
