I really enjoyed this story, although I cried through a lot of it.
When I was a child, my family had an atlas that I found fascinating. It had a section of pages with pictures of the solar system, with planets, moons, and the Sun. There was a series of pictures of the sun, through various stages of solar life, including red giant, and dwarf. The notion that our Sun would become(someday) a red giant and swallow the planets was a source of nightmares for me. I hadn’t thought of it in years.
Your story has brought that childhood terror back, but in a very different way.
I couldn’t help but think about the fact that have come through a pandemic. It was isolating and terrifying. I’m still not truly past it.
Wow. Incredibly believable and terrifying. Excellent. Time for a novelization? Audiobook?
Maybe a good AI animator can create a video, and my narration can be the soundtrack.
