This was an excellent article on industrial and platform change (my area of interest too)...

It's ironic that the switch to one-click views comes at a time when longform YouTube content continues to exist in parallel with shorts (extended podcast interviews like Joe Rogan, "calming' ASMR).

Your piece made me think about all the odd quirks in the system - as when so many people (including myself) fall asleep listening or viewing YouTube content, and it rolls on all night, ads cropping up within the run.

The internet has always been thus, Rob. For how many years have we seen web ads pop up in video form and you can’t close the little player or delete the ad until a certain number of seconds has passed? That’s a view. Even if you weren’t paying any attention to what was playing. See how effective advertising on the internet is?
