Something abandoned so readily was never a principle to begin with. Not for these network executives. 60 Minutes has already perished. It's possible an empty title will survive but the rest is already gone.
Thank you Rob.
p.s. my mom worked for "Employers Insurance of Wausau"--at one time one of the best known and recognized sponsor of the program.
What an enormous loss to us all. I hope our journalistic trust can survive this somehow. I fear the same for our trust in democratic institutions. We must try to restore all. It is a tall order but existential for a civil society and progress.
SAG-AFTRA condemns CBS News management's continued assault on the foundations of CBS News. The company's latest decision to terminate several veteran journalists from 60 Minutes is shocking.
Like all workers, journalists have the right under federal law to speak up on behalf of their colleagues about workplace concerns without fear of employer retaliation or punitive action. SAG-AFTRA is prepared to take and support any and all legal actions related to the company's conduct over the last several weeks.
Following the company's decision to shut down CBS News Radio and lay off employees across multiple platforms in March, the 60 Minutes decisions can only be seen as part of a broader strategy to gut the crucial independent journalism that is so important to our democratic system.
The dedicated journalists who work for CBS deserve management's respect and trust to do their jobs without interference from forces and interests that should have no role in the editorial process.
